Todas as camadas precisam de um mecanismo para identificar os transmissores e os receptores. Como \u00e9 poss\u00edvel trabalhar com v\u00e1rios destinos, surge a necessidade\u00a0 de se controlar a forma de endere\u00e7amento para definir o destino final.<\/p>\n<p>O controle de erros \u00e9 uma quest\u00e3o importante, pois os circuitos de transmiss\u00e3o n\u00e3o s\u00e3o perfeitos e geram erros. Muitos c\u00f3digos de detec\u00e7\u00e3o e corre\u00e7\u00e3o de erros s\u00e3o aplic\u00e1veis nos protocolos.<\/p>\n<p>Nem todos os canis de comunica\u00e7\u00e3o preservam a ordem das mensagens enviadas. Para garantir a transmiss\u00e3o dos pacotes e recuperar em caso de perda de algum pacote \u00e9 poss\u00edvel numerar os pacotes que chegarem fora de ordem. Entretanto, essa \u00e9 apenas um das quest\u00f5es sobre controle de fluxo. \u00c9 necess\u00e1rio impedir que um transmissor r\u00e1pido envie uma quantidade excessiva de dados a um receptor mais lento. Esses assuntos \u00e9 tratado no controle de fluxo.<\/p>\n<p>Quando for dispendioso configura uma conex\u00e3o isolada para cada par de processos de comunica\u00e7\u00e3o, a camada subjacente pode decidir usar a mesma conex\u00e3o para diversas conversa\u00e7\u00f5es n\u00e3o relacionadas entre si.
